Juan Martin del Potro, one of Argentina's greatest tennis players in history, spoke about Lionel Messi and this summer's World Cup in Russia.

Speaking to 'Marca', Del Potro said: "Messi has a unique career, he [has been] the best in the world for a while, but I think he also feels he needs that [World] Cup to sleep peacefully".

The tennis player also compared himself to the Barcelona forward: "It happened to me with the Davis Cup, we had never won it. I hope it's in Russia this year; I know what he suffers and he deserves it".

Messi is facing one of his last chances to lift the World Cup with Argentina, turning 31 during the tournament. However, he is the only player whom head coach Jorge Sampaoli has guaranteed a position in the squad, which he will no doubt lead as well when the competition begins on June 14.
