Rabiot twice came close to joining Barca

According to reports in 'Mundo Deportivo', PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot has twice came close to joining Spanish giants Barcelona in recent years.

A product of the PSG production line, Rabiot has gone from strength to strength of late, establishing himself as one of the French side's most important players.

Back during the 2012-13 season, then-boss Carlo Ancelotti gave the green light for the playmaker to move up to the first team, with his first taste of action at that level a pre-season friendly against Barcelona.

Since then, Rabiot has improved exponentially to the point that he is now a mainstay in the PSG engine room. The 22-year-old has generally performed well this season and even got on the scoresheet at the Bernabeu in midweek, not that it mattered much in the end.

The aforementioned source claims that Rabiot twice came close to making the move to the Camp Nou, first in 2014 when Luis Enrique took the reins in Catalonia and again last summer when Barca's long pursuit of team-mate Marco Verratti didn't bear fruit.

However, neither deal came to anything, leaving Rabiot to shine at the Parc des Princes.
